The Story of a Native Son

From student government to the Hawai‘i State Legislature to the US Congress, Mark Takai was a man who made a difference, in a lifetime of service cut short by pancreatic cancer. Elected to the US House of Representatives in 2014, the Iraq War veteran was a hard-working, dedicated public servant with a special interest in veterans affairs. Authored by former legislative aide Jenny DuhaylonsodDelos Santos, Mark Takai’s Legacy is an affectionate look at a Hawai‘i native son who served with a quiet strength and an unwavering commitment to family and community.

“Mark’s struggle with personal health issues serves as an inspirational narrative to this story,” Delos Santos says. “By documenting his achievements, personal battles and the lasting impact of his work, it’s my hope that he will inspire future generations with his determination, dedication and compassion in the face of life’s toughest challenges.”
