At the same time, I wanted to educate law enforcement and legal professionals that the idea that a child is safe with an abducting parent is a myth.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sharon Young is from a Hawai‘i kama‘aina family; in 1913 her grandfather John A. Young Sr. established Young Brothers, Ltd. On August 1, 1991, her ex-husband abducted her three children from their home in Honolulu and took them to Mexico. Sharon refused to let this tragedy define her and used her anger to fuel a way to better protect the children of Hawai‘i. She lobbied the state legislature for the creation of the Missing Child Center Hawaii, which subsequently opened in January 1995.
